The Theme of Life

Do you ever wonder why things aren’t working out how you want them to? Often, we are the reason for it.

Example: I had always dreamed of being proposed to on a bridge. I thought it was romantic. My husband and I began dating in the winter when it was cold, and snow was on the ground. We had been talking about marriage for a week when he drove me out to our favorite park. It had a beautiful grass area, a pond, and a bridge. He asked me to go for a walk with him. But I hate being cold. The truck we were sitting in was nice and warm, and I didn’t want to leave the heater. He asked me a couple of times. I refused to get out of the truck. So that, my friends, is where my husband proposed to me—inside his truck, facing the park. Not on the bridge where he had planned and I had dreamed of. It wasn’t his fault. I was the one who refused to leave the truck. I got in the way of my dream proposal.

I wish I could say that was the only time I had done that to myself. But it wasn’t. My book has taken a long time to get to where it is now because I continuously second-guess myself and overthink things. My anxiety has prevented me from starting my marketing until recently.

I now see the value of having my website early, and my author's social media accounts early. I don’t yet have the number of followers I wanted this close to publishing. My anxiety kept me from seeing that reality. Has that ever happened to you? Have you had things in your life that you later realized that if you weren’t afraid, you would have it already?

I chose this same concept as the theme for my first book. The answers to our characters’ problems are simple, but they don’t see it that way. They let their fear and pride keep them from having the things they want.

My characters are in a much more dangerous position. Letting their fear consume them and prevent them from moving forward is exactly what could cost them their lives. Much like an anxious driver on the road can cause accidents with equally deadly results.

I hope you enjoyed this blog. I hope you take time to think about what you might be getting in the way of and find the courage to take the risk to get you where you want to go in life.

We all have those times when we get in the way of getting what we want. I hope yours are less than mine, and I hope you are able to overcome those things. My husband and I still laugh about being proposed to in the pickup, and I overcame my fear of taking risks. Without risk, there is no reward.

Until next time, my friends.
